"As soon as the school bus door opened, I jumped off and threw my school bag on the ground and waited. When George stepped off, I went after him and managed to clobber him in the ear. He picked up his school books and holding one hand to his ear, ran home."
Having already published several books about my adult life I felt it necessary to complete my story by putting pen to paper, or as they say in today’s world, fingers to keyboard, to record my early years, from childhood through public school and high school and to my graduation from Columbia College in New York City, in 1955.
I had kept a good deal of memorabilia from the challenges of those early years, both good and bad, which I have included in this book called, “From Cub To A Lion,” referring to the Columbia University mascot, the Lion.
If the reader has read my other books, “OVER THERE”, describing my six years abroad in Switzerland studying medicine to its sequel, “OVER HERE,” which describes my professional and private life after returning from Switzerland, right up to today’s medical challenges, then one realizes the only missing link in my journey to date, is my early years, hence this book.
The third book I had written described the evolution of my dad’s coed sports camp, “Camp Deerhead”, as seen through my eyes, which is titled “SLEEPAWAY, MEMORIES OF DEERHEAD”
Combine the four books and you have my life’s story as I remember it, complete with photographs of those very exciting times.
I hope you enjoy my journey,
Robert Schoenfeld, M.D.
