"Crawling into the front of the crushed car over shards of glass I reached the driver who was sweating profusely as he screamed out in pain. His legs were crushed under the dashboard. I like most physicians tried to calm him stating; “we’ll get you out,” and “you’ll be okay”. You’ll be okay, is the standard statement in most critical situations where the doc tries to give some reassurance to the victim although as a doctor, he may know the outcome may be very different then, okay. This poor guy was in so much pain I don’t think he heard anything I said. When I reached him all l I could do was to start an IV, pressure bandage some of the oozing blood, monitor his blood pressure and inject him with a strong analgesic."
"OVER HERE" picks up where Bob's first book, "OVER THERE" leaves off, which with humor, poignancy, and spectacular photography, colorfully described his fascinating six years of medical school in Switzerland.
This book follows Bob through his entire medical career which includes many aspects of his personal life, family illness, his successes and his personal failures.
The reader will get a very unique insight into the mind of a young practicing physician as he confronts the many challenges of an evolving medical delivery system as well as those of his personal and professional life.
You will read about the emergency ambulance rides he was required to make during his internship as well as some of the more interesting emergency room cases he treated and how he eventually founded and ran a very successful group practice. Be intrigued when you read about Bob’s very unique and extraordinary interests outside his practice of medicine.
"OVER HERE" will take you right up to 2013 where Bob, now semi-retired, reflects on how the practice of medicine has changed and from his perspective, not always for the better.
Dr. Schoenfeld is married and has three children and four grandchildren. He maintains a strong interest in photography, both traditional and creative and has had two successful photographic exhibits in one of New York's most prestigious art galleries, the National Arts Club in Gramercy Park.

f you really want to choose the best primary care doctor for yourself and family, then this book is a "must read"! If you also want to become the most informed health care advocate for yourself and family, then this book is a double "must read"!
Why?
Because it's the fascinating and candid story of an outstanding doctor's medical career, from his internship experiences at a large county medical hospital, all the way through an illustrious medical career, loaded with colorful incidents, achievements and a not to be missed assessment of modern day medicine.
How do I know this? I'm pleased to "admit" that Dr.Schoenfeld has been my personal care physician for the past 28 years, saving my life on one occasion and providing excellent care throughout.
Did I have to write this review? Absolutely not because I'm very much my own person.
Did I want to write this review? Absolutely, because the book is so informative and chock full of insights that will enable every reader to not only make better health related decisions, but also to become a more effective health advocate in the maze that is the health world today.
Furthermore, this autobiography is a most entertaining and interesting read. Dr. Schoenfeld not only takes us through his interesting medical career journey, but into his personal life as well. He is a talented and award winning photographer and a designer of unique, cutting edge furniture. He takes the reader through his first person account of witnessing a UFO in such a credible way that any disbeliever, such as I, would be left scratching his head in near belief.
Add up all of the above and you have a five star book, well worth the read, not only for its own pleasure, but also for its life-long worth of better understanding our health care system.
I regard it as a most enjoyable and valuable read.
